Tesla Model X and Model S cars recalled over a touchscreen defect

Tesla was sent a letter by The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration on Wednesday requesting to recall around 158,000 vehicles over a flaw in touchscreen equipment. It got detected during the examination of potential security-related defects concerning episodes of media control unit failure.

It brings about issues with the reinforcement camera, defogging and defrosting settings, Autopilot, and blinkers. NVIDIA processor powers touchscreens on those models and stores information in an attached flash memory device. They have a limited amount of storage capacity, and once they filled up, they shut down, causing the MCUs to fail and creating other safety issues.

This defect increases the danger of an accident. While the letter doesn’t officially expect Tesla to arrange a recall, the automaker should present a justification if it does not want to, and the NHTSA can, in any case, make a further move if it isn’t happy with Tesla’s reaction.
